NeW skater program

A woman in roller derby gear high fives another person in a roller derby helmet, with other skaters in the background at an indoor roller rink decorated with string lights.
  • Our New Skater Program is where your roller derby journey begins. Whether you’ve never worn skates or you’re returning after years away, we’ll teach you the fundamentals of skating, safety, and gameplay — step by step and at your pace. You’ll build confidence, strength, and skill alongside others learning right with you.

No experience required. Just show up ready to learn, fall, try again, and grow stronger every week.

  • Our next New Skater Program will begin on January 6th and will last 12 weeks.

We will practice from 8-10pm every Tuesday at the Tacoma Armory, though you’re welcome (and encouraged!) to come to additional skating/learning opportunities within the league on other weeknights (also from 8-10pm on weeknights).

  • The program cost is $150* which is the same as the cost of 3 months worth of League Dues - the length of time the program takes.

Should you choose to continue with the league (we hope!) you’d begin paying $50 in monthly dues at the end of the program.

*Please note- though it’s not needed at the start of the program, you are required to have active WFTDA insurance after 60 days with the league. This is an annual $75 cost per skater.

**Financial assistance may be available for eligible skaters. Reach out for more information.

** The league does have a small amount of gear that can be temporarily loaned out for those who find the cost of getting new gear prohibitive to joining the program. Reach out for more information.

  • To make sure every new skater gets the support and coaching they need, we limit our program size to about 30 participants. Because interest has been high (which we love!), we’ll first open registration to those who have already attended an information session and expressed interest. After that group has had the chance to register, we’ll share the sign-up link with the rest of our contact list, and then open any remaining spots publicly.
